Congenital Heart Defects Families Association
Members voted to adopt Congenital Heart Defects Families Association as our Care Quilt project for 2009.
CHD Families Assoc. is a not-for-profit organization working to bring comfort and support to Kansas City area
families affected by congenital heart defects. The group provides a care packet to all families who have
children admitted to Children’s Mercy Hospital with heart defects. They include a blanket or quilt in the
care packets and in 2008 they delivered 87 care packets and an additional 28 blankets/quilts. The Executive Director, Valerie Rexin,
is truly very excited and appreciative that we are doing this project!!
Timeline:
Thanks to Mary Hibbs we have a great opportunity at this year’s MQS Showcase on Saturday, May 16th. A
reasonable amount of quilts to be done that day is 10.
They have offered us the use of a booth for the day that will have a long arm machine and a domestic machine
set up – any quilt tops turned in before then can be machine quilted by members of the MQS. Guild members will
also be asked to be on hand to help and sew binding. MQS is donating the batting, thread and muslin for batting.
The show is from 9-3 that day and we’ll be asking for Guild members to be there in groups of 2 throughout the day
(we’ll need about 8-10 volunteers). We would really appreciate some of you long arm quilters to be there to help out too!!
Shifts: 9:00 - 11:00, 11:00 - 1:00, and 1:00 - 3:00.
Please arrive a few minutes before your shift. Bonus: Free
pass to the IMQA Show for anyone who works a shift.
We will also be showcasing our community project again during our Quilt Show at Bingham-Waggoner Estates so we’ll want as many as possible to display!
The Executive Director of CHD Families, Valerie Rexin, will be at our October meeting and we would like to present her with the majority of our quilts.
DEADLINES:
April 23rd Meeting: If you would like your top quilted.
August 27th Meeting: For inclusion in Bingham-Waggoner Show.
October 22nd Meeting: Quilts given to charity.
Committee Chair: Judy J.
